Grand Rapids Public Museum

The Grand Rapids Public Museum, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is located in downtown Grand Rapids, MI at 272 Pearl Street NW. The mission of the Museum is to be a living monument of artifacts, ideas, and stories told through exhibitions, events, and educational programming designed to inspire, motivate, and celebrate our human bond. We enrich the life of our community through experiences of the wider world in a uniquely Grand Rapids context.

“The Grand Rapids Public Museum School is a true and collaborative partnership between Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, GVSU College of Education, the City of Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Public Schools, and the museum.  The uniqueness of the school born of this partnership is that curriculum will be founded upon and infused with design thinking, teaching theory and place based education principles.  It will make full use of the museum collections, the second largest and most diverse in the state.”

City of Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids has been recognized by many as a model city. Most recently it has been identified as the number one city for raising a family, one of the 10 U.S. destinations to visit in 2014, one of America’s best bike cities, one of the top five best cities to retire – and the list goes on and on. One of our secret weapons is partnership: our ability to work together to find sustainable solutions to create a high quality of life for current and future generations.

The City of Grand Rapids has had a long history of partnering with the Grand Rapids Public Schools to enhance the education of our children.  As a partner, we are delighted to be part of the design and implementation of the new Grand Rapids Public Museum School.  This new school is another key piece to creating a vibrant and sustainable downtown.
